I try to read the daily devotional from Oswald Chamber's My Utmost for His Highest on utmost.org every day. Today's was entitled "Get Moving!" (Part 2). There were a few really good things that Chambers mentioned that stuck with me.
"No one is born with character, it must be developed."
Everyone wants to be known as a person who has a good character...At least I know I do!
But character isn't given to us easily. Character takes hard work, effort & a little blood, sweat & tears! The price you pay for a good character is certainly worth it to me!
"We aren't born with habits either. We have to form godly habits on the basis of the new life God has placed within us."
It seems to be hard for me to form habits. It's like I don't have the perseverance. But by celebrating our new life in Christ, we can create godly habits. I know I am thankful for my new life in Christ!
"Drudgery is the test of true character."
Oh man, when I have menial work, I always get down or bored or angry instead of rejoicing & praising the Lord through it.
"Learn to live in those common times of the drudgery of life by the power of God."
Goes along with the quote above. This is something I have to constantly remind myself, otherwise I would be down in the dumps all day long.
"I must realize that my obedience even in the smallest detail of my life has all of the omnipotent power of the grace of God behind it."
This hit home. It's hard sometimes to be obedient in the small things because we think oh, it's no big deal. But yes, it actually is! I find joy in realizing the choice I have in front of me even though it might not necessarily a big deal but God is asking me for my obedience in what He is telling me to do & then doing it, knowing that I have pleased the Lord.
Go & dive into His word & be encouraged today!
